Digital marketing is becoming a bigger and bigger part of the marketing landscape in the IT and digital industries, says Patrick O’Sullivan, managing director of Digital Media Agency.
He believes the rise of social media is a key driver of the growth in the sector.
“People are now more socialised into digital marketing.
People are much more likely to take action online.
Social media is the next big thing,” Mr O’Neill said.
“I think the biggest shift will be with the growing amount of social networks.”
He believes social media will become the most valuable and fastest-growing part of digital marketing in the next decade.
The number of digital marketers in the US is estimated at 20 million.
That means the digital market is expected to grow by more than $60 billion by 2020, with the average digital budget in the country growing by more, on average, than $600,000 a year.
Digital marketing and social media have come to dominate the IT space in recent years, with digital marketing agencies such as Digital Media Marketing Services (DMS) and Social Media Marketing Agency (SMMA) becoming the top digital marketing services providers in the world.
Mr O`Neill says this has been aided by the emergence of social platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat.
But Mr O”Sullivan also believes there is more to digital marketing than just social media.
“The other side of the coin is that digital marketing has really become about branding and engaging with customers and the community in a digital way.
There is a lot more to it than just marketing and branding,” he said.
There are now two types of digital companies in Ireland, he said, one which is owned by an agency and another which is independent.
“Both are really big players and have the capacity to make money,” he explained.
“And I think that is what will drive the next generation of companies and the next wave of growth.” “

Digital advertising agency GAP has expanded its team of digital ad specialists to include digital marketers, while the Digital Media Research and Consulting (DMRC) division of PwC has launched a new digital agency.
Mr Pardey, the CEO of Digital Marketing Services Ireland, said the digital advertising industry in Ireland was on the up.
“There is an opportunity here and I think we will see a lot of growth,” he added.
Digital Marketing and Social media are growing rapidly, and there are many more opportunities for people to get involved with digital advertising in Ireland.
Mr Ryan said there were also new opportunities for those who work in the technology sector, such as digital marketing for large organisations.
“We are seeing an increasing number of companies starting to realise that they are looking for a good talent in their digital advertising team and they need to know how to get that person,” he stressed.
The DMRC is the largest digital marketing agency in Ireland and has an average of 10 clients across the country.
“So, it is a really good thing for the country and for digital marketers as a whole to have that kind of knowledge and experience and they have the ability to get to know the clients in a much more hands-on way,” Mr Ryan explained.
He added that there was a lot to learn from other agencies who were successful in Ireland’s digital advertising space.
