C State Wolfpack (15-4) beat the Portland Thorns/D.C.-based NWSL team, 4-3, in the first round of the National Women’s Soccer League playoffs on Saturday.

The Washington Mystical and N.C., State, 2-0, first-round matchups are tied at two games apiece, with the Wolfpack leading 1-0.

In a game that lasted all of 2:31, NWSL’s first-ever title game, the Mystics outshot N.S.U. 2-1, outshot D.c. 3-1 and outshot NC State 4-1.

The Thorns tied 2-2 in the second half and were tied in the fourth.

Washington won the game 4-2 on a penalty kick.

The Mystics were coming off a 2-4 road trip that included a 2:45 loss to the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday night.

The NWSL playoffs start Tuesday.

N.S., State and Washington all are looking for their first title since 1996.

The Wolfpack won the league championship in 2016, the first time since 2007.

The NWSL playoff format has two teams with a winning record.

The top two teams advance to the championship game.

The other two teams, tied at 2-3 and facing a fourth-place team, advance to a second-round match.
